Objectives of the project:
The Strategic objective of the current project is:
- To foster sustainable development in the cross-border region through utilization of the cultural, tourist and human resources in Garmen municipality.
- To improve the condition of Nikopolis ad Nestum – excavations, restoration, preservation and to renovate the related tourist infrastructure;
- To enrich the tourist profile of Garmen municipality;
- To promote the municipality of Garmen as an alternative cultural tourist destination at national and international markets and thus to increase the incomes of the local population;
- To create sustainable local employment opportunity for people involved in development and functioning of the tourist destination
- The municipality of Garmen;
- Unemployed from the applicant municipality;
- Hotel and restaurant proprietors and tourism related businesses;
- The partner organization – Municipality of Agios Athanasios
- Archeological works at the site – clearing the site and excavation;
- Activities related to the socialization of the cultural heritage site and related infrastructure;
- Selection of the unemployed for clearing the site, the excavations, the 2 vocational training courses – Animators/interpreters and Security Guards;
- Vocational trainings for Animators/interpreters and Security Guards;
- Employment for 6 people at Nikopolis ad Nestum;
- Activities related to elaboration of different Strategic documents about the archaeological site;
- Restoration and conservation activities;
- Elaboration of different advertisement and promotional materials.
- Popularized Garmen municipality and its cultural and tourist resources at national and international level;
- Enhanced sustainable local development through promoting new and competitive tourist product;
- Decreased level of unemployment at the municipality and increased incomes of the hired people;
- Assured long-term employment for local unemployed involved in functioning of the archaeological site;
- Improved condition of the archaeological site and renovated tourist infrastructure at the site;
- Enhanced opportunities of the local tourism related SMEs to expand the business initiatives;
